A Magical Journey to the Legendary Cities of the Ancient Silk Road

Discover the legendary cities of Samarkand, Bukhara, Khiva, and Tashkent. On this journey, you’ll experience the stunning beauty of Oriental Islamic architecture, immerse yourself in the vibrant colors of Central Asia, and enjoy the relaxed, flavorful dining and drinking culture of the region. Modernity has also reached Uzbekistan, with Tashkent as an example of a modern city and the starting point for your magical journey to Uzbekistan.

Detailed 8-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Tashkent. Arrival – Tashkent
Fly with Turkish Airlines or another airline, depending on flight connections, to Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan. Flight duration is approximately 7 hours. Your guide will meet you at the international airport and escort you to your hotel.

Day 2: Tashkent – Urgench – Khiva
Today, we explore the old town and the historic Khast-Imam Complex. At the large square, you’ll see the Tilla Sheikh Mosque, the Barak-Khan Madrassa, the Kaffal-Shashi Mausoleum, and the library housing the world’s oldest Quran. Next, we visit the Chorsu Bazaar, famous since the Middle Ages, located at the crossroads of the Great Silk Road’s caravanserais.
In the afternoon, we explore the modern city, visiting Independence Square and Amir Timur Park.
In the evening, we fly to Urgench. Transfer to your hotel in Khiva, approximately 35 km from Urgench. Enjoy a typical local specialty for dinner.

Day 3: Khiva
Visit Ichan Kala, the “inner city citadel” of Khiva, which looks as historic today as it did centuries ago. Ichan Kala (UNESCO World Heritage Site) is one of the few preserved places in Central Asia where you can imagine life during the Khanate era.
While strolling through the historic center, admire the oriental ornaments and turquoise tiles of the richly decorated buildings, and understand why Khiva’s old town is called an “open-air museum.”

Day 4: Khiva – Bukhara
Embark on an impressive drive through the vegetated Kyzylkum Desert (“Red Sand”) and the vast steppe to Bukhara (approx. 420 km). We’ll stop for lunch at an Uzbek “rest house” teahouse along the way.
In the late evening, arrive in Bukhara, with time to explore the city on your own. Enjoy dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 5: Bukhara
The tour of the old town begins with the Ismail Samani Mausoleum, followed by the Chashma-Ayub Mausoleum.
Walking through the old town feels like stepping into One Thousand and One Nights. It’s hard to believe that, just as 100 years ago, teaching and learning still take place in mosques and madrassas, such as the Miri Arab Madrassa.
Admire the classic Lyabi Hauz architectural complex with its trading domes, mosques, madrassas, and the Khanaka Dervish Monastery, and understand why Bukhara is called the “Noble City.”

Day 6: Bukhara – Rabbati Malik – Samarkand
Travel to Samarkand, the city of One Thousand and One Nights (UNESCO World Heritage Site). In the Middle Ages, it was considered one of the world’s most beautiful cities—and it has lost none of its charm.
En route, visit the Rabbati Malik Caravanserai and the Sardoba (an ancient water reservoir).
Then, explore one of Uzbekistan’s landmarks—the famous Registan Square with its three unique madrassas: Ulugbek, Sherdor, and Tillya-Kori. We’ll also visit the palatial Gur-Emir Mausoleum, the resting place of ruler Timur.

Day 7: Samarkand – Tashkent
Visit the Samarkand paper manufactory, where silk paper has been produced since 2005 using 8th-century techniques. Next, explore the Ulugbek Observatory, once Central Asia’s most significant research center, and the Shakhi Zinda Necropolis (“Living King”), where members of Timur’s family are buried.
Then, visit Central Asia’s largest mosque, the Bibi-Khanum Mosque. Nearby is the Siyob Bazaar, where you can stroll through stalls and marvel at the impressive selection of dried fruits.
At 6:00 PM, travel to Tashkent by the high-speed “Afrosiyob” train. Enjoy dinner in Tashkent.

Day 8: Tashkent – Return Flight
Early morning return flight home.
